My New Discovery Page

There’s a new tool on the Family Search website called My New Discovery Page. Where is it on the website? All you need to do is open one of your deceased ancestor’s personal page. Then over on the top right corner you’ll see Go To New Discovery Page. Click on it and it brings you to a new page. You’ll notice that all of your ancestor’s information was brought over from the personal page. But you’ll also see new topics such as World History, Photos and Memories, Activities, Timelines, and Name Meanings.

This feature is great for family connections. You can show this page to your youth and kids so they can see their ancestor all in one complete page. So you can see everything at a glance. It’s great if you don’t have much time to do genealogy that day or week.

Also, you can share this page through email, a shareable link, What’sApp, Facebook, and Twitter so that your extended relatives can see it.

Audio Recordings for Family Search Photos

Photos are a great way for families to connect and share memories. You can put photos onto the website by going to the Memories tab, then click the Gallery tab. You can either double click on an already existing photo or you can click on the green plus tab to add a photo.

Now that you have your photo uploaded to the correct ancestor, you are going to go to the bottom of the photo. You’ll see a green microphone and the title Record a Memory. Then click on that tab and record a five minute memory of that photo. Family members are welcome to share what they remember from the photo. So now you can have the audio recordings of multiple people at different ages. It’s brilliant!

One of the regrets of many people is that they don’t have a recording of their deceased relative. But now it’s available to all of us photo by photo.

Conclusion

This website is still changing our lives and our ancestor’s lives for the better. I love learning all of the new things that they are coming out with. I may not be able to get to all of them due to time, motivation, and energy. But I’m very impressed at the variety of choices we have as families and family historians.

So go check out these new features and share it with your family!

And as always…good luck and happy hunting!
