5 Things I’m Grateful For About Genealogy

It’s November, which means it’s Thanksgiving month. And I’m all about being grateful this year, but more importantly I’m grateful for genealogy. So I wanted to share with you the things that I’m most grateful for when it comes to genealogy.

I’m Grateful for My Curiosity

I have been fascinated with my family history ever since the adults in my life started sharing family stories. It wasn’t much or very organized, but it was very interesting to listen to. So then I wanted to know more. Then more. And more. Etc. I’m super grateful for my curiosity that led me to dig deep into my family. Now I still don’t know everything and I still haven’t asked all of my questions or gotten to visit with all of my extended family. But what I do know now is worth gold to me. I am curious for a reason.

Genealogy Websites

Are you grateful for this as well? I love genealogy websites! I can’t get enough of them especially when they keep adding stuff to them. It feels like they never sleep because I get on them a few days later and there’s new stuff to browse. My favorites of course are the big ones FamilySearch, Ancestry, Find My Past, and My Heritage. But I also love the Scandinavian websites such as Danish Family Search, Norway Archives, and Swedish Archives just to name a few. I’m sure you can relate when I say this has been a game changer for the genealogy industry.

Other Professional Genealogists

I recently went to a Professional Management Conference where we had some amazing speakers who have been doing genealogy for many years. I loved learning from the best in this field! They have seen the many changes this industry has been through and yet their careers are still going strong. I have changed many of my perspectives, goals, etc. because of them. They keep me on my toes!

My Ancestors

I can’t say enough about them! I know they were far from perfect especially when they didn’t have the family resources that we have today to help us. But that just makes me admire them even more because they lived lives with little to no help. The more I research their lives the more I can’t help but admire them. I was recently reminded of one of my ancestors who was a true tinker and inventor because he was dirt poor. He didn’t follow every social etiquette rule because he didn’t have time for that.  But he did raise a family and live his life the best he could. I was humbled to hear some of his story again.

My Genealogy Business

I never thought I could start my own business because I wasn’t what you would call a “go-getter.” But I have surprised myself by starting it from the ground up and continuing to stretch myself with my business goals. I’m super proud of where I’m at today knowing that I’m not done growing my business. I’m also super grateful that I can help all of you find your family and grow your family history knowledge. I hope you know that I’m here for you when you have any questions about your family history. And I hope to continue answering your questions in this blog.
