Family Search Blog: A Reliable Resource for YOU
Did you know that Family Search has a blog? I didn’t! It was a couple years ago that I stumbled across it myself and it’s an amazing resource. I think we are accustomed to using Google as our main research tool when learning about a topic. But the Family Search blog has a lot to offer as well in this area. So let me show you what it has to offer for your research and your family.
How do you get to the blog
It’s really simple! You can do it in two ways. When you are on the Family Search Home page, just scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen. You’ll see the Blog button among the About, Volunteer, Find Ancestors, Site Map, DNA, and Solutions Gallery. This works on both desktop and phone App version of Family Search. The other way is to Google specifically for the Family Search Blog. See how Google plays a part in this? Again this works with both desktop and phone versions.
Categories
Once on the blog there’s buttons for you to search the blog, use the categories, or back to the blog home page. The categories are super simple to use. There’s seven categories that cover all things genealogy. They are About FamilySearch, For Latter-day Saints, For the Whole Family, Genealogy Research, Heritage and History, News and Events, and Personal History. So as you can see they cover it all.
Each category contains many relevant articles written by different blog writers that work for FamilySearch. This is also the place where you’ll find what’s new on the website. They either do an article about what records have been digitized recently or what details have been done to the actual website. It’s a great place to stay updated.
The Search button is your typical button for finding specific topics. So if you’ve searched on blogs before, then you know what to do here.
